Terms of Service
Effective date and last updated: October 2, 2026
Please read these terms before using afar.tv. They explain the rules for viewing our streams, using interactive features, sharing content, and accessing connected services.
1. About these terms
These Terms of Service govern your use of afar.tv and website features provided by AfarTV. AfarTV is operated by Grand Fir Network Inc., based in British Columbia, Canada (“AfarTV,” “we,” “us,” or “our”).
By using our website after being given a reasonable opportunity to review these terms, you agree to them to the extent permitted by applicable law. If you do not agree, stop using the website. If you use a service on behalf of an organization, you must have authority to accept these terms for that organization. Any separately agreed written licence or service agreement controls where it conflicts with these terms.
2. Our services and availability
AfarTV provides access to livestreams, videos, information, and related features showing nature, volcanoes, space, and locations around the world. Some content is hosted by third parties. Features may include saved favourites, community participation, or camera controls where offered.
Streams and features can be interrupted, delayed, unavailable, or changed because of weather, power, connectivity, equipment, maintenance, platform restrictions, or other circumstances. Descriptions such as “live,” “24/7,” “4K,” or “8K” describe the intended service or available source quality; they do not guarantee uninterrupted delivery or a particular quality on every device. Playback may include recorded material when clearly identified as such.
We may modify or discontinue services. For material changes to paid services we supply directly, we will provide notice and any remedies required by applicable law or the relevant purchase agreement.
3. Safety and informational use
Our footage and commentary are for viewing, education, and general information. They are not an emergency warning system or a substitute for official volcano, weather, marine, aviation, or other safety advice. A camera view may show only a limited area and may be delayed, obscured, or offline. The absence of visible activity does not establish that an area is safe.
Follow local authorities, official monitoring agencies, access restrictions, and emergency instructions. Do not enter dangerous or restricted areas to appear on camera or act on a livestream observation. In an emergency, contact the appropriate local emergency service.
4. Accounts and eligibility
Where accounts are offered, provide accurate information, keep your login credentials secure, and notify us if you suspect unauthorized access. You must not use another person’s account without permission or misrepresent your identity or authority.
You must meet the age and eligibility requirements of any third-party service you use. If you are not legally able to enter into these terms independently, a parent or legal guardian must review them and authorize your use where permitted by law. Purchases and account connections require the necessary legal capacity and authorization.
5. Acceptable use
Use the website lawfully and respectfully. You must not:
- Harass, threaten, impersonate, discriminate against, or disclose private information about others.
- Post unlawful, infringing, deceptive, or malicious material, or spam.
- Attempt unauthorized access, introduce malware, bypass access controls, or interfere with cameras, servers, networks, or other users.
- Use automated requests or scraping that disrupt services, evade restrictions, or violate applicable platform rules. Ordinary public search-engine indexing is permitted subject to our published crawling instructions.
- Use our services to stalk individuals, identify private routines, or facilitate unlawful surveillance.
- Remove attribution, misrepresent the source or date of footage, or suggest an endorsement by AfarTV without permission.
6. Interactive camera controls
Where camera controls are available, use only the commands and permissions made available to you. Presets, zoom limits, queues, time limits, and membership eligibility may apply. Control access does not give ownership of a camera, exclusive control, or rights to the footage.
Commands may be delayed, overridden, or unavailable. AfarTV may restrict or suspend controls to protect privacy, equipment, scientific observations, or the viewing experience. Do not attempt to aim cameras into private spaces, track individuals, bypass limits, or disrupt other viewers. Camera-control availability is not guaranteed; any applicable paid-service rights remain subject to section 9.
7. Content ownership and footage licensing
Website materials, branding, and AfarTV-created footage are owned by AfarTV or their respective rights holders and are protected by applicable intellectual property laws. Other footage, imagery, music, and information may have separate ownership or usage terms. We claim rights only in material we own or are authorized to license.
You may view content through the website and use official sharing or embedding features where enabled, subject to the relevant platform’s terms. Sharing a link does not transfer ownership or grant a general licence to download, edit, republish, broadcast, commercially exploit, or continuously restream footage.
For news, documentary, educational, research, or other reuse requiring permission, contact [email protected]. A written licence may specify attribution, logo placement, permitted clips, platforms, duration, and archival use. Attribution alone does not replace permission. Any separately issued courtesy licence or other written permission governs its stated use.
Nothing in these terms limits uses permitted by applicable law, including applicable copyright exceptions, or rights granted by the relevant rights holder. Material identified as subject to a separate licence is governed by that licence.
8. Community content and moderation
You are responsible for comments or other material you submit and must have the rights needed to share it. You retain ownership of your submissions. For material you post directly in a public AfarTV website feature, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, display, and technically reproduce it only as needed to operate and moderate that feature. This does not grant us a general right to use your submissions in advertising.
That licence ends when the submission is removed, except for reasonable backup retention or records needed for legal or security purposes. Content posted on YouTube or another platform is governed by that platform’s submission terms.
We may remove content or restrict participation for violations of these terms, platform rules, legal requirements, or reasonable safety and security concerns. We do not guarantee that all public submissions are reviewed. Contact us if you wish to report a concern or request review of a restriction.
9. Memberships, donations, and purchases
Memberships, tips, donations, and merchandise purchases may be offered through YouTube, fundraising platforms, payment providers, or a separate store. The checkout terms identify the seller or recipient and govern pricing, billing, renewals, cancellations, fulfilment, and refunds. Review those terms before paying. These website terms do not replace the separate terms of shop.afar.tv or a third-party platform.
A membership or contribution does not grant footage ownership, licensing rights, or guaranteed uninterrupted access to a particular stream or camera feature unless expressly stated in a separate agreement. Cancel recurring payments through the platform where you subscribed. Any promotional description of a paid benefit remains subject to applicable consumer law.
For charitable campaigns, review the named beneficiary, campaign purpose, and platform rules. Tax deductibility and receipt eligibility depend on the recipient and applicable rules; do not assume every contribution qualifies. Nothing in these terms removes a refund, cancellation, or other consumer right provided by law.
10. YouTube, Google, and other services
Our website uses YouTube services, including embedded players and, where applicable, YouTube API Services. By using the YouTube features provided through our services, you agree to be bound by the YouTube Terms of Service. The Google Privacy Policy explains Google’s handling of information.
Optional Google or YouTube account connections require your authorization. Any actions on your behalf must stay within the permissions and instructions you approve. You can revoke a connection through your Google account permissions. Revocation may prevent connected features from working.
External websites, embedded content, advertisements, stores, and payment services are operated by their respective providers. A link does not imply endorsement. Their own terms and privacy policies apply, and we do not control their availability or actions.
11. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal information, cookies, connected services, and privacy requests. These terms do not substitute for consent required by privacy law. Avoid submitting sensitive information in public comments or chat.
12. Disclaimers and responsibility
To the extent permitted by applicable law, the website and content are provided on an “as available” basis without warranties beyond those expressly stated or required by law. We do not guarantee that information is complete, current, error-free, or suitable for a particular purpose, or that services will always be available or free of security vulnerabilities.
To the extent permitted by applicable law, AfarTV is not liable for indirect or consequential losses, such as lost profits or business opportunities, arising from use of or inability to use the website. This exclusion does not apply where liability cannot lawfully be excluded, including mandatory consumer protections, or to loss resulting from our fraud, wilful misconduct, or gross negligence.
Nothing in these terms excludes or restricts rights, remedies, guarantees, or responsibilities that applicable law does not allow us to exclude or restrict.
13. Restrictions and termination
You may stop using the website at any time. We may restrict or suspend access where reasonably necessary to address a breach of these terms, protect people or services, or comply with law. Where practical and appropriate, we will explain the restriction and provide a way to contact us for review. Urgent action may be taken without advance notice.
Termination does not cancel outstanding obligations under a separate purchase or licensing agreement, or remove rights provided by law. Provisions concerning content ownership, licences for prior authorized uses, liability, and dispute resolution continue to apply to the extent relevant after access ends.
14. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of British Columbia and the applicable federal laws of Canada. Subject to mandatory laws that give you other rights or forums, disputes may be brought before the courts of British Columbia. This provision does not deprive consumers of mandatory protections or the right to bring a claim in another jurisdiction where applicable law provides that right.
Please contact us first if you wish to discuss a concern. Doing so is voluntary and does not prevent you from using any legal remedy or contacting a regulator. If a provision is unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue to apply to the extent permitted by law.
15. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as our services or legal requirements change. We will post the revised terms and update the date above. For material changes, we will provide reasonable notice before they take effect where practical, and obtain acceptance where required. Changes do not retroactively alter an existing written licence or completed purchase unless separately agreed or legally required.
